New on BStreams? It’s a pleasure having you on board!
We are super excited and thankful to you for choosing us for your adventure through data visualization & data analysis.
We’ll do our best and work hard to give you a high-quality service and constantly support you during the creation of your charts.
This article is an introduction to BStreams to let you get oriented through our platform. We can’t wait to see you in action and impress your audience with beautiful data visualizations.
Are you ready? Let’s start!
Create a free account on BStreams
If you want to create your first project but still don’t have an account, the first step is to get one. It’s easy and free, and it will only take you a few minutes.
- Enter your name, email, and password.
- Click on the checkmark icon to receive news and updates
- Confirm your email
Or sign up with a Google or Facebook account.
Projects Panel: starting creating a new chart
When you get access to your account for the first time, you will be introduced to the platform by a quick tour that will end up with tutorial number one explaining How to create your first chart. Once you have read it, you will see the project panel:
It shows you all the projects created, but you will only visualize the tutorials (circled in yellow here) since it’s your first time on BStreams. If you like to have a deeper understanding of handling data files and datasets, look at the number two tutorial, How to use a dataset. In this section, you can:
- Click on the “Add new project” button to start creating new Bstreams (simply speaking, a project is equivalent to a BStreams).
- Use the scroll-down menu on the left to organize the projects according to the desired order or find a BStreams using the search bar on the right.
After opening an empty project, you can easily add charts, text, or images to create your BStreams. Each chart comes with a sample dataset, so you don’t have to worry about uploading a data file that you can provide later. Feel free to play around with charts, text, and images. However, if you need more information, please refer to the user documentation.
Datasets panel: visualize your datasets
Move to the Datasets main panel to visualize all the available datasets. They came from the data files you have previously uploaded or the Data Hub.
You will see the name, description, creation, and updated dates of your datasets. Click on each column title to sort the list accordingly. If you move the cursor onto each row, you will see some icons displayed:
- eye icon: view your dataset
- pencil icon: edit it
- update icon: update your dataset by importing a new one
- three dots menu: rename your dataset, edit the description, duplicate or delete it.
How to add a new dataset on BStreams
Currently, you can upload data in 3 different ways:
- upload xlsx/csv files
- copy and paste data
- select data from the data hub
The Data Hub is a public/private data repository where we collected various data of topical interest that are automatically updated. So, when an update comes, it will be propagated to all the related BStreams, and the ones you have published will be always refreshed with new data.
The BStreams menu bar
At the top of the page, you will see notifications and account settings:
Account icon: click on it if you want to manage your account settings or if you want to sign out
Notifications icon: every time a new notification is out, you will see a red dot on the bell.
To sum up, this was a super quick tour to get you introduced to BStreams and show you the essential elements to move your first step on the platform.
